Surrey Young People rise to the Challenge

June 6th, 2014 in Archive by 0 Comments

Young people from our clubs have just finished the 100 mile canoe challenge at a weekend of mixed weather, where they cooked, camped and canoed their way down the river Wye.

This challenge needs lots of preparation for the tough physical requirement and Surrey Clubs ensured they were ready with camps throughout April and May as well as river based sessions of 10,15 & 20 mile practise runs.

The river was fast and the weather wet and wild in places, but all the young people distinguished themselves, paddling for 5 hours each day covering the course in the fastest time for our group in recent years.

Well done to the youngsters and also the volunteers who made it possible.

We’re looking forward to next year’s challenge and would welcome clubs who’d like to send along participants.
