100 Mile Canoe Challenge

 

Activity description

To provide opportunities for young people to develop and participate in canoeing, within a challenging, fun and safe environment, building self confidence, knowledge of water safety, personal canoe skills and the ethics of working together as a team.

On completion of canoe training sessions, to be selected for the County group, embarking on an action packed fun-filled weekend away, participating on the CYP 100 mile canoe challenge, living under canvas, away from home comforts and being provided with opportunities to develop canoeing, social and life skills.

How many sessions:
- Introduction Night for interested participants, parents and club leaders
- One hour evening Pool Capsize Session
- Introduction canoeing and camping weekend
- Four individual days of canoe training, ( 5, 10,15 and 20 mile duration)
- Selected to attend the 100 mile canoe challenge (5 days)  at Whitsun Bank holiday

Costs:
£125 per person

Outcomes:
- Develop and participate in canoeing, within a challenging, fun and safe environment.
- Building self confidence, knowledge of water safety, personal canoe skills and the ethics of working together as a team.
- Accreditation through the British Canoe Union.

 

Before this event, I had never tried canoeing and although I have found it difficult and hard work, the experience has been well worth it, I am now looking forward to the next canoeing event
