Make your New Year’s resolution early…Get your team fit and work ready

Christmas is on its way and with it comes the regret of over indulgence and the return to work blues, a great way to combat both of these is the Activity for Charity Challenge, taking place in January.

The premise is simple, 10,000 steps per day or more and your team can compete against other corporate in the chamber and raise much needed funds for the Chamber’s nominated charity Surrey Clubs for Young people in the process.

Surrey Clubs for Young People supports over 90 youth groups across Surrey, with volunteers, funds, equipment and low cost sports and arts activities, as well as supporting disadvantaged young people by offering accreditation for these activities and leadership training that can help build a portfolio of achievement to take to employers.

Surrey Clubs is passionate in the belief that every young person can achieve success and given the fact that 1 in 10 young people in Surrey face a future of not being in education, training or employment every opportunity to instill that belief and confidence in our youth is vital, as well as involving them in positive activities such as sports, to keep them active and motivated.

In the last challenge12 Surrey Chambers of Commerce member companies took part in the challenge, one of them becoming the first ever team of 5 to all achieve the 10,000 steps/day target every day for 6 weeks.

The response from participants in the challenge was very positive. In the end of scheme online survey, 92% reported that the challenge had benefited their personal health and wellbeing and 95% said they intend to maintain a higher level of activity now the challenge has finished. 63% also responded that it had improved team relationships or office atmosphere at work.

The benefits for the teams that participate are obvious, the benefits to the organisations who participate, are also clear, healthier and more engaged workers and working with Surrey Clubs to build a relationship between your organisation and the community, raising funds to encourage our youth to become more active and engaged, meets not only your CSR targets, but also creates great PR opportunities, and stories for your stakeholders.

Activity4Charity plan their next full challenge starting 28th January 2013, with the theme of Getting Active and Healthy for the New Year. There is a special discount for Surrey Chambers member companies. Any companies interested in Supporting Surrey Clubs for young People can find out more about the Challenge at here or alternatively call Joyce on 01306 898006 for more information.
