Volunteer Roles – Youth Worker

Volunteer Youth Worker
Youth clubs offer a safe environment where young people can meet up, make new friends and participate in a range of worthwhile activities. Help from volunteers is vital if youth clubs are to provide young people with the exciting and challenging opportunities they deserve. As a Volunteer Youth Worker you be based in one of our youth clubs/projects, where you will provide support to the youth club leaders.

Typical tasks for a Volunteer Youth Worker include:
- Planning/running activities
- Interacting with young people
- Setting-up/packing down
- Other tasks as appropriate
- If you have a skill, i.e. sport, performance/visual arts, cooking, music etc., these could also be a valuable asset to a youth club. You do not need to have any formal qualifications in youth work, just a passion for working with young people.

- Training opportunities in the basics of youth work (inc. Child Protection, First Aid, Health & Safety, Activity Planning)
- The opportunity to work towards an ASDAN Community Volunteering Award/Volunteering Certificate
- Experience working with young people
- An opportunity to make a difference
- We will reimburse travel expenses (there is an opportunity on the application form to tell us which areas you are able to work in)

Qualities that make a successful Volunteer Youth Worker:
- A genuine desire to work with young people
- Confident and enthusiastic, able to get alongside young people and help them achieve their potential
- Dedicated and reliable
- Doesn’t discriminate against others for any reason
Please note that all roles working with young people will require you to be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS, formerly CRB) check.
